Setup

Add Firefly to the hosts file.

The hosts file tells Windows where Growtopia’s connection should go. Only add the two visible Firefly lines.

  1. Make a backup

Open File Explorer, go to the folder shown below, and copy the hosts file to a safe folder before editing.

    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  2. Run your editor as administrator

Right-click Notepad++ and choose Run as administrator. Approve the Windows prompt.

  3. Open the hosts file

Use File → Open and enter the full path below. If the file is not visible, change the file type selector to All files.

    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
  4. Paste both Firefly lines

Go to the end of the file, start a new line, and paste the two lines from the box above.

  5. Save as hosts, not hosts.txt

Press Ctrl+S. If Save As appears, choose All files and keep the exact filename hosts with no extension.

  6. Flush Windows DNS

Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:

    ipconfig /flushdns
  7. Open Growtopia

Fully close any existing Growtopia window, launch it again, and sign in.

Finish and undo

Confirm the result.

You are connected when

Growtopia opens the Firefly server after the hosts file is saved and DNS is flushed.

To return to official Growtopia

Delete only the two Firefly lines, save, run ipconfig /flushdns, and reopen Growtopia.

Troubleshooting

Common Windows problems.

  • Access denied: close the editor and reopen it with Run as administrator.
  • File saved as hosts.txt: reopen Save As, select All files, and use the exact name hosts.
  • Still official server: verify both lines are present, flush DNS again, and fully restart Growtopia.

After setup

Reopen the game.

This is a Firefly gameplay preview, not a Windows hosts-file screenshot. If Growtopia opens Firefly after saving and flushing DNS, you are finished.
